Merry Christmas from Levenshulme Good Neighbours

Another year gone already! Where does the time go?

We’d just like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported us this year, including those who have donated, helped us run activities and joined us on trips out. We’ve had some brilliant and educational sessions with the People’s History Museum, as well as some great craft sessions hosted by the Inspired People’s Project. We’d like to thanks our hard working trustees, and the wonderful folks at our base in the Inspire Centre. And of course, a very big thank you to our amazing volunteers. They give their time all through the year, around full time jobs and families, to help us tackle social isolation, build friendships in the community, and remind us what an inspiring and unique place Levenshulme is. This town is full of people determined to make a real difference to the community. How lucky are we?

Here’s a few images from our Christmas meal this year, which had great attendance. We had a lively performance of A Christmas Carol by the visiting panto group, followed by delicious Christmas dinner. To reduce the impact of plastics on the environment, we didn’t have crackers this year; but thanks to Geraldine at IPP, we still had the jokes – thanks for reading them out and giving us some laughs (and quite a few groans).

A very big thanks to our sponsors this year too, including the W O Street Charity, Margaret Wooten Trust, the Coop Community Fund, and Community Soup, who have made many of our activities possible.

Wishing you all the best for 2020

LGN visits the People’s History Museum

This month we enjoyed our final two performances with the PHM: ‘Shine A Light’ about life in factory for women during the Victorian era, and ‘Peterloo,’ a play about the 1819 tragedy which we watched at the Museum itself. Both were brilliantly performed and offered us an interesting insight into each era and social history… Continue Reading

Thanks to Community Soup!

Last Tuesday Levenshulme Good Neighbours took part in ‘Community Soup.’ The sessions involve inviting people and groups with creative ideas that make a real difference in their communities to pitch to a community audience in different parts of the city. After enjoying some hot soup (or other delicious food!) and listening to the pitches, the… Continue Reading

People’s History Museum: Migration

This month we had another performance from the brilliant People’s History Museum. The one-woman plays highlight social issues from the past and present, and we have been using these to compliment our “memory café” sessions. The performance this time was called “Moving Histories” and it examined the topic of migration told through eyes of a… Continue Reading

Trip to Chester!

This week the folks at Leveshulme Good Neighbours joined the Inspired People Project for a trip to Chester. Half of our number chose a visit to Chester Zoo, while the other half opted for a day out shopping in the lovely Chester town. Those who went to the zoo had a fantastic time enjoying the… Continue Reading

You’re having a laugh…!

We celebrated this April Fool’s Day  with a very apt visit from the Laughter Clinic. Hosted by Robin Graham from Feel Good Communities, the workshop discussed the benefits and therapeutic nature of laughter, and gave us time to reflect on what makes us laugh. Did you know, simply because our physiology changes when we laugh,… Continue Reading
