People’s History Museum: Migration

This month we had another performance from the brilliant People’s History Museum. The one-woman plays highlight social issues from the past and present, and we have been using these to compliment our “memory café” sessions. The performance this time was called “Moving Histories” and it examined the topic of migration told through eyes of a young Asian girl growing up in Manchester. The play was wonderfully written and performed, and really sparked some great conversation from our members. Three ladies in the group shared their own, poignant, experiences of migration, and we explored our own opinions of the issues raised within the play.  The performance touched on some poignant times in British life in post war cultural history, and members from the BAME community felt comfortable enough to express their own experiences which linked to the subject of the performance. We all came away having learned more about other cultures, and the experiences of our neighbours. We had a really positive response to the play, and our members are looking forward to the next performance – and a final trip to the People’s History Museum itself. Many thanks to the W O Street foundation for their support to help run the sessions.
