In February, we welcomed David Jackson as the new LGN administrator. David writes:
“When I saw the job ad for the admin role at Levenshulme Good Neighbours it looked like an exciting opportunity. I’ve always enjoyed visiting the area, have friends in Levenshulme, and had heard great things about the Inspire Centre and LGN. So, when Ray told me I’d got the job, I was delighted!
I’ve nearly ten years’ experience of working in the Charity sector, during my time at Manchester based alcohol and drugs charity, Addiction Dependency Solutions (ADS). Most of this time, I worked in a rehabilitation unit called Bennett House, based in Crumpsall. My job duties were very diverse, one minute I’d be helping a resident with their the benefits claim, the next, organising our annual holiday to Conwy in Wales (I’d always make sure I booked a night in a decent Fish ‘n’ Chip restaurant!) Hopefully this will prepare me well for LGN!
Unfortunately, ADS closed a few years ago. Since then, I’ve mainly been self-employed, selling vinyl records and music memorabilia, and even doing some TV extra work. I’m a big music fan, and have enjoyed attending Northern Soul and Mod nights, and a few concerts in my time, from Shirley Bassey to local legends, New Order.
I’m still new to the service and finding my feet but thanks to Ray, I’ve already got a sense of some of the great characters who make LGN what it is, that includes the trustees, volunteers, and of course, the service users. Ray has spoken with great warmth about the relationship between the volunteers and the older people they support.
My aim is to support Ray to spread the word about LGN and continue to provide support for all those currently engaged with the service, and hopefully get involved with some activities and get out and about!
Hope to see you all soon!”
