About LGN
Levenshulme Good Neighbours makes a huge difference to the lives of older people. Many of the people we help don’t have the support in their area to rely on for the practical things in life, or for companionship.
Our work involves recruiting volunteer befrienders from the area who help people in a wide range of social, emotional and practical ways. We offer activities, social events, days out and training opportunities to older people, so they can make the most of their time in ways that are meaningful to them.
20% of our clients also suffer from dementia, and it is very common across the aging population. We recommend connecting with local dementia- friendly groups, such as the Peter Quinn Friendship Group.
We do what we do because it’s so important that older people enjoy independent and fulfilling lives and are active and valued members of the local community. It’s also a wonderful to see inter-generational friendships flourish.
We’re proud to work with people in the popular and vibrant local community of Levenshulme, a suburb in Manchester approximately three miles south east of the city centre. Levenshulme Good Neighbours formed in September 2012 with the support of our sister organisation, Burnage Good Neighbours. We are run by a Management Committee of local volunteers and we are based in the Inspire Community Centre, a thriving hub in the heart of Levenshulme.
Levenshulme Good Neighbours is a member of the Manchester Neighbourhood Care Group Association. The Association is a network of independent Care Groups that provide support for older people in need in Manchester.
