My name is Ray Olaniyan, and I am the new coordinator for Levenshulme Good Neighbours.
I have been working within and around Levenshulme for the past year and have really taken to its neighbourhoods and hotspots (such as the Inspire Centre, Nawaabs, Antique Village and Crowcroft park to name a few). So far I find the community to be diverse and buzzing. I aim for the Good Neighbours program to maintain and reflect that.
I wish to see the bar raised on the number of age friendly events, volunteer meetups and supportive activities within our group, to increase the number of client to client companionship, diversify our client base, and to further integrate the good neighbours with surrounding organisations and local groups.
From this month through September you can find me at the Inspire Community centre on Mondays and Thursdays. Inspire is a fantastic hotbed of activities and energy. The space reflects the community of Levenshulme and the volunteers are always perky. I have not sipped red wine there yet but their ‘meal of day’ chilli beef is not to be messed with.
You may find me taking part in Levenshulme Community Conversation on a monthly basis discussing the communication, environment and safety of Levenshulme. You can also accompany me to age related research collaboration talks with the University of Manchester if you are interested on insight on ageing in the community.
There is something nice about hopping the 192 bus and seamlessly find oneself from one end of Manchester city area to the centre of Stockport in not too much time or hassle. I hope that before the end of the year I would have finally stuffed myself at Nawaabs and attended one of the key dates that feature the Levy Choir.
My interests are stencil murals/street art, anything by Alex Garland, hiking, debating at Britons Protection Bar and Arsenal FC.
I hope to have more entries and presence of the Good Neighbours on facebook, here and on Love Levenshulme website.
See you around
Ray (guess who below?)
