LGN visits the People’s History Museum

This month we enjoyed our final two performances with the PHM: ‘Shine A Light’ about life in factory for women during the Victorian era, and ‘Peterloo,’ a play about the 1819 tragedy which we watched at the Museum itself. Both were brilliantly performed and offered us an interesting insight into each era and social history across Manchester. There was even some audience participation from our Coordinator Ray who helped act out a question and answer session with the audience, from the perspective of a worker in the mill. We enjoyed a tour around the museum too, which brought the exhibits to life, and had many of our members talking about their own family history and experiences of some of the events it covered. This trip concluded our ‘Memory Cafe’ sessions, which explored history and memory, were made possible by kind donations from the W O Street Charity and Margaret Wooten trust.

Thanks to Mr. P for making this video of our trip!
